Funding Your Master’s Degree Education

CIA is committed to making your education as affordable as possible. Generous graduate merit scholarships are available for our programs. And you’ll automatically be considered for CIA scholarships as part of the application process. The best way to find out what you qualify for is to complete your application for admission.

For Culinary Therapeutics, Food Business, Sustainable Food Systems, and Wine and Beverage Management, CIA offers the following scholarships:

  • CIA Graduate Merit Scholarship is for domestic students and can total as much as $8,500 for the duration of the master’s degree.
  • CIA Graduate International Merit Scholarship is for international students and can total as much as $2,500 for the duration of the master’s degree.

Culinary Arts students are supported by a full-tuition scholarship, the Dom Pérignon Culinary Scholarship. Additional stipends are available to cover most of the travel and residency costs.

CIA participates in the Federal Graduate Direct Loan Program. Eligibility to borrow through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan program will be determined once you have been accepted into the master’s program and have filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can also apply for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan to help with any remaining expenses.

Notes for All Master’s Degrees:

Books and Materials:
Although a large portion of the materials for this program are provided in free downloadable formats, there are texts, books, articles, and case studies, that are also required to be purchased for courses. In addition, each student may be required purchase a student membership to Harvard Business Publishing for Education, for access to course materials at a discounted rate.

Estimated costs for the above described materials are between $200 and $250 per semester for the first year, and between $500 and $550 per semester for the second year.

Residencies:
Students are responsible for costs for travel, accommodations, and some meals for each residency. Costs associated with facilities, staffing, faculty, guest speakers, activities and/or conferences, and selected meals, are included in the residency tuition.

 

Impacts of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) on Financial Aid

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) introduced significant changes to higher education policy. This includes changes to Federal Direct Loans, repayment options, and Pell eligibility. Below is a summary of the information we currently have available.

This page was updated on April 30, 2026. As new guidance becomes available, this page will be updated. We encourage current and admitted students to check their CIA email regularly for updates.

Incoming students after July 1, 2026:

  • The Graduate PLUS Loan program will be eliminated for new borrowers.

Legacy provisions for currently enrolled students:

  • Students who have borrowed any Federal Direct Loan (Unsubsidized or Graduate PLUS) in their current graduate program prior to July 1, 2026 may continue applying for and borrowing these loans up to their cost of attendance (minus all other aid).
  • Valid for up to three academic years or until degree completion, whichever comes first.
  • Students must remain continuously enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits per semester at CIA. A leave of absence will end this eligibility.

Incoming students after July 1, 2026:

  • Eligible students may borrow a maximum of $20,500 per year in Direct Unsubsidized Loans, with a per student limit of $100,000.
  • Undergraduate loans do not count toward the graduate limit.
  • There is still a combined lifetime cap.

Legacy provisions for currently enrolled students:

  • Students who have borrowed Direct Unsubsidized Loan before July 1, 2026 may continue applying for and borrowing these loans up to the student’s cost of attendance (minus all other aid).
  • Valid for up to three academic years or until degree completion, whichever comes first.
